Dr. Ozawa received her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees, and practiced as a neurosurgeon in Japan until moving to San Francisco to investigate the cause and treatment of brain cancer at UCSF. She is extensively published in leading scientific journals, and is considered an authority on pre-clinical testing of anti-caner agents. In 2006, she has co-founded "Dancing for a Cure!" whose mission is to stage high quality cultural and artistic events to raise funds for non-profit anticancer organizations. The organization's event "Spring Dance Inspiration" raised over $140,000 for brain tumor research, and patient and family member support. She is a member of American Association for Cancer Research, the Society for Neuro-Oncology, and the Japanese Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

Sharon Torrano, Secretary & Treasurer

Ms. Torrano graduated from California State University, Hayward, now Cal State East Bay, where she majored in Business Administration with an emphasis on Real Estate, Marketing and Non Profit Management. She has taught enrichment classes to grades 2, 5 and 6 as well as worked with children ages 6 – 17 in after school programs.

She brings 21 years of non-profit and volunteer management experience to Bay Pointe Ballet. She has designed operations and procedures for a ballet company and school as well as designed a ticket selling database for manual ticket selling. As the director of a day camp for over 20 years, she manages and trains 75+ volunteers annually and oversees the general health and welfare of 700 children age 4 – 18 during their day camp experience.

She is a firm believer that performing arts must be available to everyone; that every child and adult deserves enrichment opportunities and that artists deserve a living wage.


Matthew A. De Bellis

Mr. De Bellis manages the business side Peninsula Dance Academy in Foster City, from finance to marketing. After completing his undergraduate studies, he began his career as a crime reporter for a daily newspaper in Visalia, Calif. He finished his journalism career as a reporter for Red Herring, where he covered early-stage venture capital. Since then he has been a freelance writer, a marketing consultant, a tourism consultant, a translator, and an English teacher.

He grew up in San Mateo, Calif., and has lived in Visalia, Florence, San Francisco, Rome, Cairo, and Alexandria. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a minor in Italian from San Francisco State University, and he’s an alumnus of the California State University, International Programs, Florence, Italy, campus. He speaks fluent Italian and beginner Arabic.

He has a Masters in Business Administration from Santa Clara University, and a Masters Certificate in the Essentials of Hospitality Management from eCornell, the online education arm of Cornell University’s School of Hospitality Management.
